Everything I need to succeed is already within me

Whenever I come across this card – Everything I need to succeed is already within me – it reminds me of that Rumi quote, the one about our task not being ‘to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it’.
Because what if success is not something we need to figure out how to get? What if, indeed, everything we need to succeed is already inside of us, and we ‘merely’ need to look for and get rid of all the barriers within us that we have built against it?
Now, you might think to yourself: Why on earth would I build barriers against success? And that is a very good question, weren’t it for the dozens of clients I’ve had over the years who were afraid of their own success, for a myriad of reasons.
Fear of failure is such a known phenomenon, but so many of us – myself included – fear success just as much, if not more.
I fear success for many different reasons. There are the practical ones – fear of becoming overwhelmed is a big one for me as is the fear of having to hire assistants and other employees and picking the wrong ones – and there are the more existential ones.
What if people stop liking me for who I am and start liking me for what I can give them? What if I change? What if having success turns me into a greedy and soulless bastard who’ll do whatever it takes to hold on to and create more of it?
I spent a lot of time over the past years working on these particular fears, especially that last one, but it wasn’t until I started working with the Akashic Records that I began to understand where these fears came from. As it turns out, I don’t exactly have a clean record when it comes to having success and being an upstanding citizen who doesn’t make terrible mistakes.
Initially, learning the extent of what I’ve done in previous lifetimes made me even more afraid of my own success. Everything I learned I treated as proof that I was not to be trusted. Not with success, not with money, and especially not with power. And that’s what success often comes with.
In hindsight – gotta love that hindsight – I understand that my ego played a big part in me grabbing onto that story with both hands. Is there a better way to keep someone small and contained and within their comfort zone than making them absolutely terrified of what might happen if they started expanding?
It took a very stubborn therapist, a no-nonsense Reiki master, and a friend who’s always ready to shove a mirror in my face for me to start digging deeper. Not just into these lifetimes and how I ended up making bad decisions but also into the aftermath and the decisions I made during those, the lessons I learned.
Gradually, I began to see that the real reason my Akashic Records kept showing me these lifetimes wasn’t to warn me about how much of a danger I could be. It was to show me how beautifully I repaired whatever I helped breaking every single time, and that I’ve learned exactly what I needed to learn to not make those same mistakes again this lifetime.
As a result, I am becoming less and less afraid of my own success. I dare say I’m even excited to reach the success I’m hoping to reach this lifetime because I’m finally learning to trust myself in a way I never have before. It’s a process, and it’s been hard, but I’m finally beginning to reap the fruits of all that labour. And it’s been more than worth it.
